What gives you direction in life?
My higher power keeps my head above water, sometimes drifting and other times swiftly moving toward an unseen destination.
Trauma often truncates the future in individuals who have spent a long time surviving, such as victims of child abuse or survivors of domestic violence. They become unable to see a future or think there could be a different one.
This was true for me after college, and this time blindness quickly propelled me toward chaos. I was spinning in circles most of my twenties…flailing around helplessly trying not to drown. I thought I knew what I needed until I hit an all-time low that forced me to reassess my life. With medication, it became easier to find reasons to live and fight on.
Today I am blessed to trust in the guidance of a power greater than myself. It has given me the peace to let the current of life take me where it does, at the pace that it does, knowing I am being protected and guided by a force of nature I may not always understand. I stop comparing myself to others and judging myself. Anxiety lessens and I become the jellyfish
