Finding Freedom Within the Soul – An Aspie’s guide to Self-Discovery and Peace

What does freedom mean to you?

To make my own mistakes

To triumph and learn

To lay asleep at peace

Safe enough to yearn

Dreaming of stability

I awake and find it’s true

Financially, I’m free

A state of mind anew

Free to exist as I am

Free to be human and fail

Fully and completely detached

A soul not up for sale

We often seek freedom in external circumstances, whether it’s through financial success, travel, or relationships. True freedom lies within ourselves, waiting to be discovered through introspection and self-awareness.

Embrace Authenticity

Finding freedom within yourself requires embracing authenticity. Remain true to yourself, your values, and your passions and take the time to reflect on what truly matters to you and align your actions with your authentic self. Is there an inner child that needs healing and comfort? Maybe a new mother trying to find her new footing with a helpless human in tow?. When you live authentically, you free yourself from the burden of trying to please others or conform to societal norms. I ask myself each day, what my inner child needs to live as the best version of themselves today.

Cultivate Self-Acceptance

Self-acceptance is essential on the journey. Embracing your strengths and weaknesses, acknowledging that nobody is perfect and practicing self-compassion helps you forgive yourself for past mistakes, using the experience to inform the future. By accepting yourself fully, you release the need for external validation and find peace within.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a powerful tool for cultivating inner freedom and peace. By staying present in the moment and observing your thoughts and emotions without judgment, you can break free from anxiety and worry. Mindfulness allows you to experience life as it unfolds, without being consumed by regrets from the past or fears of the future.

Let Go of Attachments

Attachment to material possessions, relationships, or outcomes can hinder your sense of inner freedom. Learn to let go of attachments by cultivating a mindset of detachment. This doesn’t mean abandoning your responsibilities or relationships, but rather releasing the need to control every aspect of your life. Trust in the natural flow of life and embrace uncertainty with an open heart. What or who is your higher power? Let them guide you on the journey.

Practice Gratitude

Gratitude is a powerful practice that can lead to a profound sense of inner freedom. Take time each day to reflect on the blessings in your life, no matter how small. I like to make a list of 3 things I am grateful for each morning as I have breakfast. By shifting focus from what we lack to what we have, we cultivate a sense of abundance and contentment. Gratitude opens your heart and allows you to appreciate the beauty of each moment.

Connect with Your Inner Wisdom

Deep within each of us lies a wellspring of wisdom and intuition. Take the time to connect with your inner guidance through practices like meditation, journaling, or spending time in nature. Trust your intuition and allow it to guide you on your journey towards inner freedom. By tuning into your inner wisdom, you gain clarity and confidence in navigating life’s challenges.
