Today, I take you through my garden as it is on March 25, 2025
I started out in the basement but it was too cold for the warm weather crops (hot peppers, okra), so I built a set up upstairs where it’s warmer and sunnier! After moving them upstairs, one of my pepper seeds sprouted. I put them under direct light to prevent the legginess observed in the other seedlings.
I added my rockwool lettuce to the hydroponic system downstairs at 1/4 nutrient strength so as not to cause nutrient burn. They look to be doing well, and there’s an air stone running to help the roots.

I checked on my pink oyster mushrooms and was surprised to see growth from the side hole I cut.

I had a bit of contamination on the top of the substrate (either Trichoderma or Penicillium). I sterilized a kitchen knife and removed the infected grains, along with extra non contaminated grains in the hopes I could save the substrate. I’m hoping this helps but I did go ahead and order more uncle Ben’s brown rice, so I can inoculate more bags. I’ll monitor the bag and throw it out if necessary. Tomorrow I will inoculate more of each kind of mushroom. In the mushroom garden, currently we have pink, blue, golden and king oysters as well as lion’s mane. Lion’s mane hasn’t colonized yet, I’m suspecting it’s the substrate.
Downstairs I have multiple grow lights in use for my hydroponically grown seeds and my soil seeds. I think I’ll need bigger lights in the future. For now, we are managing.
The pea shoots are growing rapidly! I added a trellis to help them grow. I look forward to when they start fruiting.

Excited for what tomorrow brings. Subscribe for more updates!
